I’ve come to realize that one of the main reasons I have a Mac is so I don’t spend all day playing with new search tools (most of which are PC only), and instead I can focus on my supposed real job, which is writing the book (yes, I really am writing, I swear). To that end, I can’t speak to the new launch of Blinkx, but that’s OK, a lot of other folks can.
Release in extended entry.
Update: Om notes that there may be trouble in Blinkx land, a founder is out….

I really like Blinkx version 2.0. I downloaded it yesterday and have had a really great experience so far. The smart folders are key. They make searching for things so easy. I actually was researching a topic last night at work, and was able to download clips and watch them on the way home that the smart folders thing had found.
I agree, Blink v.2.0 is really great. It has made my searching so easy, since I downloaded it for free. I like how it has P2P also….i am hooked
My experience has been good so far. I have been using blinkx for a while now. This new version is much lighter that the old one and much more professional.
I found another app called ESP the other day. (www.espsw.com) For your personal computer it is great. It doesn’t do content search, but I don’t need content search. I need a fast way to get to all the stuff I already know about. I don’t want to spend 30+ seconds “exploring” for things when I know where they are, I just want them. ESP does that for you really well. I will find and launch anything on your computer. Just tell it where the interesting stuff is (i.e. your development drive and NOT C:windows). It will also index all your favorites and start menu applications so you can get to your favorite URLs or launch your favorite applications with a couple of key strokes.
