Why launch Chrome (Google’s new “browser”) when Firefox, Google’s favored son, is doing so well? Because Google needs its own. Using a comic book to introduce it is fun, and certainly, there’s always room for new approaches to platform and interface, and Chrome looks to have a lot of neat new features and a fresh approach. But what this really tells us is that Google is dead serious about the distribution business, for one, and dead serious about the operating system business, for another. Reading through the book, I am struck by how similar the language is to traditional operating system overviews. Multithreading, stable development platforms, etc. etc.
With the IE 8 in beta, and Firefox going strong, it looks to be a good season for innovation on the Web.
So, looks like this sorta thing was in the works four years ago, to the month (September of 2004).

That is what their search algorithm is based on, after all.
Yes, their search algorithm is: “One-Size, Fits-All”.
But that’s not necessarily my method of retrieving information. If I have a heart attack, then I do not need the world’s “most popular” CPA to balance my books! Instead, I want a doctor/physician.
I guess this means that the Chrome’s “popular” sites might be more useful for the kind of user who does not care whether they are being treated by an accountant or by a physician — as long as he/she is “popular” according to Google/Chrome’s algorithm?

Not necessarily – Google’s history with software isn’t taint-free, and it’s the very same early adopters that are generally suspicious of Google’s motives that this software is aimed at.
Firefox has a very decent market share which takes a long time in the browser market, and will be here for a while yet.

Now Google is just rebranding it and tailoring it for their google cloud and apps.

IE is going to offer users a chance to set IE to “private”, which will block Google’s Adwords advertising then Google Chrome born. Google Chrome is clean and fast. But I love Firefox.

the other interesting thing i noticed is that they are cross-promoting chrome from the Google homepage (at least in the Netherlands). no one else has such a great platform to distribute their browser, and their distribution costs are extremely low…
@brendan OMG, yes, Google has also introduced chrome advertising on the Google homepage here (in Germany) — is this happening across other Google sites? Has anyone received Google chrome ads in Google Mail (GMail)? I have already seen chrome being advertised via “Ads by Google” (adwords, adsense or whatever).

Google Chrome has been designed to make maximum use of the window. Lots of users feel uncomfortable using Internet Explorer or FireFox in Full Screen. This browser didn’t got me that feeling.
I was happy with my mozilla. I always thought that instead of creating their own browser, google is going to buy mozilla. Whatever, i installed the chrome. First feeling is wierd. They combined google search and browser features. Looks simple, need to browse little more to express my feelings, i guess…

I remember that they had this same ethical conundrum when they started putting links to Google Desktop on the home page.

I guess by that logic people working for Wikipedia should start looking for a new job since Google’s Knol is out.
From what I’ve seen on Chrome, it does seem to offer a new potential enterprise quality browser, that will definitely be seen in large organisations. The big question is, will it offer new cheaper ways for business to use their resources to deploy applications or new functionality to their users. That will be the key challenge. It could mean (once Linux or Mac OSX is out) that there is a bigger potential to go to a new platform with less need for large scale software rollouts like office or windows.

The big thing this gives Google is a software platform ranging from Browser, Applications (google apps), Gmail, Searching, ADVERTISING, and more which doesn’t rely on any other technology. This is smart stuff which could mean google are well staged to push their other products on the basis of this platform.

Google Chrome is very fast, looks good & attractive. Using Google Chrome on our system is less work more fun.
Its has simple navigation which is easy to understand.
Inbuilt Malware/Badware detector, which gives you safe browsing.
ITS FREE 🙂 hurray.
After all, Its Google Product.
What i like is Book Marks, Screen shots which you see when you open a new tab.
Now we are eagerly waiting for Google Computer Operating System.

If Chrome makes it, then Google will own a piece of the OS market. If it doesn’t then Google will own a piece of the browser market and have even more browsing pattern data to work with to further improve Google Ads. They either win or win, just in less spectacular fashion.
