…Hackers have figured out that they look a lot more legit getting checks from google than trying to wash 10k dollars in cash delivered in a bag.

  1. I’ve been watching this comments area for almost two days now.. and am quite surprised that there has not been even a single comment. What do folks feel? Is clickfraud really not an issue? Do the search engines really have it under control? Because if not, isn’t the mixture of fraud and advertising a threat to the entire search engine.. if not Web 2.0.. business model?

  2. What not an issue!!! Holy Splog Page Batman. It might not be a widly discussed issue and I (just my thoughts on it) believe it stems from the number of people attempting to make some form of an effort to monetize their, website, blog, email. With some form of clickthru advertising. If all the conversations turn to click fraud and the numbers involved, possibly, what,30% advertisers are going to start pulling out in droves. There just might be a fear of killing the cash cow.

  3. I think the most interesting thing is that CPC was revolutionary, it basically said you will only pay when someone has some interest in your offer. It is interesting to see how things are switching back to CPM based models (which was overblown in the first bubble). I think adwords and google’s model is brialliant, and think that click fraud within searches can be controlled rather easily. The publisher bubble that is adsense on the other hand is much harder to control, and I am sure it is rampant with fraud.

  4. Click Fraud is definitely an issue – from both the publisher and user perspective. In fact I would go so far as to say that the house that Google built is built on a foundation of sand.

CPM and CPC are both systems of advertising that in theory work but in reality have to be closely monitored to ensure that for xxx number of clicks/visitors you get x sales. If the number drops you are doing well if the number increases you are doing poorly.

Really the only model that works and works well for the advertiser is CPA – but finding networks that want to go down this path are far and few – mainly cause they burden the risk and have to put their money where their mouthes are.

    We like CPA the best!

  5. Internet it is a big business. Today it is almost impossible to create good dating or travel website and be popular. The biggest reason is Google and their pagerank. It is impossible to get even PR3 backlink with anchor text from another website for free. God bless you and you are lucky if year later your “great” dating website is Google PR2 at least and top 1000 in MSN. When you doing blog, it is enought to post in hundereds blogs your comments (Your name as Anchor text) and in couple monthes your website PR7. Some people are ready to pay up to $1 800 for PR7 backlink (according http://www.adBrite.com and http://www.Ebay.com). Blog became a great resource to promote a website and make money… too sad!
