I Love….Jesus!

In a search for for "I love Jews" on Google, Gawker found that the spellchecker asks "did you mean 'I love Jesus?" Oops. Google corrected the error that day, again showing that hand rolling is necessary when algorithms turn a culturally deaf ear. Thanks, Jason….

  1. I dunno if this is an algorithm problem, in that replacing “love” with another verb (such as “I like Jews” or “I know Jews”) didn’t return the same suggestion.

This seemed much too precise to be an automated response, and I suspect editorial intervention. It was, after all, the first day of Chanukah

  2. The term ‘I love jews’ returns over 10,000 results, which is probably the reason the spelling suggestion doesn’t kick in anymore. If there’re a reasonalble number of valid results, then Google doesn’t make the alternative suggestion
