Coincidentally, last week I had the flu and it occurred to me (and I’m sure many others) that Twitter would be great for tracking infections via realtime searches and suitable algorithms regarding keywords from people’s posts about “I have the flu!” or whatever…
I included it in a post on my blog:

And within an hour, a friend sent me a link to this:

“We’ve found that certain search terms are good indicators of flu activity. Google Flu Trends uses aggregated Google search data to estimate flu activity in your state up to two weeks faster than traditional systems.”
We have seen this coming along with the recent rumors/ news that Google is becoming a monopoly.
