The other new feature is called interestingness and it’s huge! A long time in the making, interestingness is a ranking algorithm based on user behavior around the photos taking into account some obvious things like how many users add the photo to their favorites and some subtle things like the relationship between the person who uploaded the photo and the people who are commenting (plus a whole bunch of secret sauce).

  1. It’s funny John. I was about to email you with this. I saw it myself a few minutes ago and posted on it and thought it would be right up your alley and here you are already with the story. It’s friggin’ unbelieveable. Some of the most amazing photography I’ve ever seen in my life. What a filter.

Whatever steroids these algorithms are on it’s exciting to know that as Yahoo! owns Flickr that you could see these in Yahoo! image search possibly at some point in the future.

Quite simply the best images on the internet period. Outstanding.

  2. Who’s invention was that? Does photorank come from the good old Flickr team or is it a Yahoo’s new wave. All this “ranking” smells like search engine gyus are there but who knows…

I personally don’t like where Yahoo leads Flickr to, all this integration is bad. It destroys the unique Flickr atmosphere of a photo sharing community. As far as I heard some Flickr members don’t like it, too.
