These are a little different. A9 uses the Nutch-based search that I built for the Creative Commons last fall. For example, try searching for “john battelle” at http://search.creativecommons.org/ and you’ll find the same stuff as A9. This index is seeded by HTTP refers that CC collects when its license badges are displayed. Yahoo seems to be instead filtering their web search results.
