Last week the world (OK, the Techmeme world) got excited because Google added search to its news reader. Huh? What? You mean it didn’t have it before? I use Shrook on the Mac, and it’s had search forever. Is it so hard to do in an online environment? Does Bloglines not have search? I can’t imagine it doesn’t.
Huh. I don’t get it. I’m stunned it didn’t launch with search. I mean, it’s Google, right?
It’s hard to believe, isn’t it? Glad they added it. Maybe one day they’ll steal me away from NetNewsWire. They’ve come close a couple of times.
Seriously, lack of search in GR has been beef #1 since the beginning. It’s wayyyy about time.
It seems crazy that Google Reader didn’t have search. However, it is extremely slow and I’m having a hard time using it. I guess will go on and switch back to Bloglines, which has had search since I started using Feedreaders about 2 years ago.
They launched with search, then they took it away with the big redesign. Now, it’s back.
It is actually a big technical challenge to do in an online service like Google Reader. I was trying to do something similar when I was at AOL Search and ran into the same hurdles.
Glad Google got it out.
John I appreciate your snarky post.
Too much of the Blog coverage these days lacks any questioning of the days blog release. The Techmeme world is quickly becoming a legion of fanboys and fangirls.
Yeah. Bloglines had a search a year ago. Not sure about Netnewsire.
