Interesting investment by Google Ventures in a company called Recorded Future, a wonderful play on verb tenses and words. The company is a “temporal and predictive analysis engine.” That just sounds cool.

Google is co-investing with the CIA’s investment arm. That’s interesting, no?

Seems like investing to discover that old axiom agai: garbage in, garbage out. And going by the icons representing all the input into this thing, there’s going to be a whole lot of garbage in.

I guess Facebook and other social networking sites will be a little surprised with this one. Surely, this one can at least see the future at 0.10 % accuracy rate. Well, actually, I think this is one cool thing we have today. Better try to check this out later.

@Pete – So what you are saying is that what people have to say is garbage? Because half those icons are about popular opinion.

Popular opinion is what creates the future. All you have to do is understand where that lies easily and quickly and you can easily predict future developments.

Google themselves has said they considered creating algorithms that predicted future stock prices but ditched the idea because it is illegal.

@Frank Adams – You got it. The more input the more accurate.

I like the idea Recorded Future have come up with..I suppose its only a small technological leap as companies have been predicting future trends etc for a while by monitoring politics, news, social media etc. But to offer in a new way is a a nice little idea!

The idea behind the website is good. But their predictive future blogs are seems tobe very common and general.

Is it just me or does this have the feeling of Minority Report? As fun as attempting to predict the future is I get the sense this may lead to more trouble than good.

You could actually argue that the RecordedFuture model is a next step for the R&A industry. Gartner, Forester and IDC should beware.

The whole media monitoring thing, utilising a Moreover feed plus enterprise search is quite boring now. Everybody seems to be touting that to potential investors. What makes these guys really interesting is that they are plugging the historical actuals in and trending based on groupings.

I’ve tried, in my own small way to build a future-focused prediction engine and business benchmarking site based on social, computational and analysts ratings, so its very interesting for me to see an alternative approach to the challenge of event prediction using different data sets.
