AT&T Takes a Step In the Right Direction

By - December 07, 2009

Screen shot 2009-12-07 at 11.18.26 AM.pngAT&T today released an iPhone app that reports wireless issues. It’s called Mark the Spot. Very cool. This is a step toward the crowdsourced, conversational, map-driven go to market strategy I outlined here….this app was not done by AT&T marketing, but rather labs, I was told, though that is not totally confirmed.

What a great application. Having worked in the mobile industry the one piece of information that is most important is knowing where coverage is *for a customer* as opposed to a mathematical prediction.

Cellcos have spent many millions on drive testing and various help desk systems that detail this. With a simple app, they now get this data for free (mostly).

    Brilliant

How is it supposed to find your location and/or transmit data if you don’t have service?

At&t because of this software is developed to congratulate you. I think they did a first. Software to their advantage. I think all the banks that commonly used now for the phone needs to develop such a software.
