(“In Silicon Valley, the Race Is on to Trump Google”) ReadWriteWeb has a summary and follow-up that breaks the competition into categories of competition to Google: Better Technology, Better UI, and Vertical Search. Well worth a read, but the conclusion Alex Iskold draws is that no one’s quite ready to battle Goliath yet.

  1. It seems like people are building Davids left and right — and it’s just a question of time before users realize that small can be beautiful (since it’s more focused / targeted). Like Ms. Dyson says (in the NYT article): ““I love Google,” she said, “but I love the march of history.”” (and the “but” kinda sticks out)

  2. Don’t doubt for a minute –
that is ANY of those Google-killer hopefuls REALLY showed the potential to oust Google, they would have been acquired by Google or Yahoo,
or have had their technology imitated and integrated if had they refused to sell.

  3. Everyone is creating their own army to out Google Google. It’s not going to be easy but there are a few that look like they have potential. A real go-getter that I would like to see in this battle is Amazon’s new search engine. That one has the money that may be able to compete with the big 4 search engines.
A giant is waiting for its battle. But the one who can beat the giant has it’s trojan horse ready and waiting.
