FT Award: Friedman Wins

Alas, The Search did not win the FT Business Book of the Year award. But I'm happy to be in the company of those who were shortlisted, and Thomas Friedman, who won. News first came from Pravda, oddly, but I was there, and it was a fun night nonetheless……

Being part of the top of the crop is good especially with the company that you are keeping on this list.

I also liked the fact that Tom Friedman chose Dan Pink ‘A whole new mind’ as his favorite business book.

I have not read your book yet but for excerpts but i am keenly aware of the influence of Google on my prospects.

Most of the clients I am getting for my montclair, new jersey based concierge service find me through Google.

For whatever reasons, one of my websites Montclair Concierges comes up on the first page in a Google Search when the other one, New Jersey Concierges does not show up. It does though on Yahoo and Msn.

My blog ‘Serge the Concierge’ comes up first now after being on and off the first page, maybe because i have written on the blog consistently for close to 8 months now.

    Have a good day.

  2. Certainly just being nominated is wonderful. While I think our society does overly highlight winners, I understand Google’s working model is “websites are not created equal” and some deserve better listing — I think this would also apply to books. So you could see this as a means of showing the results of a search. But maybe next time, they will let us all vote ;-).

i think and do the same. since 3 or 4 month i feel that my favorit searchengine google are slow down in quality results. i try msn and yahoo for alternated serps and it works better.

in a other blogspot.com blog i read articles like “Google earn a own slow death?”

i hope thats the quality in future better like actually.

    greetings

  4. Is there no one in the press that sees the irony of a book on globalization-whose author stresses the need to protect against piracy and strengthen intellectual property protection-that is infringing the copyrights of the artist whose work was used on the cover? It just doesn’t seem fair to the authors and publishers that play by the rules and honor international treaties to award a prize based on sales that are driven by the stolen creative property of an internationally respected artist. Especially in light of the fact that even after the cover was replaced in the U.S.-it was released in the U.K. and around the world with the infringing cover-and remains on the market despite repeated cease and desist notices.
