One of the things I like about Google is its penchant for stuff that’s, well, a bit out there. Like IP over power lines. It actually works, though. And it’s a bit more realistic than, say, carbon nanotubes to the moon.

Google Inc. (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research) , Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Hearst Corp. are investing about $100 million in Current Communications Group, a start-up that offers high-speed Internet connections over electricity lines, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
Current Communications, of Germantown, Maryland, uses a technology that sends Internet signals over regular power lines, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the situation.

You’re refering to “BPL” or “Broad Band Over Power Lines”. It sounds incredible however if that was the case why have so many other countries said “no” to BPL. I know it will interfere with all the amateur ham radio operators but I can’t help thinking there is some other issue not being told to the American people.
