Search News

By - June 25, 2008

Two notable search startups had news in the past day:

Kosmix launched horizontal topics, quietly at first, then TC caught on.

And SearchMe is mining new visual search approaches. Marketing Pilgrim has more.

Before I follow those links — why are those startups supposedly “notable”?

Kosmix is a good resource to look out things on net. It looks out for a search keyword on every “Segment” on net and presents it on a single page, be it:

    web
    Video
    Social networking sites
    Myspace etc

Never had much exp with SearchMe and Caught On.

@nmw – SearchMe is backed by Sequoia, and is doing a full web index. Kosmix is from two notable entrepreneurs with good track records in the space.

    Thanks, John :)

I like lightweight applications — if I have to wait more than a fraction of a second for something to happen, then I get impationent and start twiddling my thumbs…

    John, thanks for the post!

One clarification: at Kosmix, we don’t think we’re building a search engine, but something entirely new and different. Search engines are great for finding needles in haystacks. Kosmix is about exploring the haystack. Details here:
