Older White House computer hard drives have been destroyed, the White House disclosed to a federal court Friday in a controversy over millions of possibly missing e-mails from 2003 to 2005….
… the White House disclosed in January that it recycled its computer backup tapes before October 2003. Recycling — taping over existing data — raises the possibility that any missing e-mails may not be recoverable.
Gee. I am sure this was not intentional.
I personally would rather have the white house and all other government programs destroy old unneeded data rather than leaving it lying around waiting for it to be stolen. If the VA destroys a hard drive and avoids a data leak it is good, but if the white house destroys a hard drive that contained classified information while not under a subpoena that is bad?
Where are the security people on this? The white house (hopefully intentionally) destroyed old hard drives that contained classified data. Wonderful!
