It’s beginning to feel as though Google, NewsCorp, Microsoft, etc. are indeed most keen on acquiring more and more online real estate — indeed so much, that it almost feels like we’re talking about Tribune, Gannet and/or Knight Ridder (or whatever — don’t know all the names …
Also, since Google has started “featuring” youtube.com etc. so prominently on its SERPs, they’re beginning to feel more and more like a “table of contents” rather than like an “index”.
Perhaps we are truly on the verge of a NEW era of the Internet: Is web 2.0 finally becoming web 3.0?
If so: this is how I would define web 3.0: the web 3.0 = the WWW without a single, one-size-fits-all index.
This would be another step in the “coming of age” of the Internet: users no longer blindly follow what someone tries to “dish up” as if it were an absolute truth.
Immanuel Kant would be impressed:
“Enlightenment is man’s emergence from his self-imposed immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one’s understanding without guidance from another. This immaturity is self-imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another. Sapere Aude! [dare to know] “Have courage to use your own understanding!” — that is the motto of enlightenment.“
