Will Google Buy Content Companies?

By - November 27, 2007

That’s what Jon Fine speculates in his BizWeek blog. It’s possible, but I doubt it. Owning content means managing content. And that’s rather messy. Were Google to get into the game, and were it to be honest about where the true profits in Adsense were, it’d buy Demand or Name. But that would be a bit too…validating, wouldn’t it?

Is AOL a competitor? Didn’t they acquire a 5% stake in that company about 2 years ago?

..and managing content is supposedly what Google does best, right? Organize the world’s information and all that?

So why would Google shy from that? Unless at their soul of souls they really are not a information organizing company, but rather just a big ad agency.

One interesting sentence in that article… “It’s also launching a job ads initiative.” What is this? I haven’t heard anything about this.
