Definitely cooler than Google. And I never thought I would hear myself utter those words. The platform is a huge play and this is just the tip of the iceberg of thing yet to come.

And it’s oh-so-funny to see MySpace empty. Only bands/musicians and one other of my 250 friends still use MySpace.
I don’t get it. Facebook does social networking. Google does search (and a little bit of everything).
Don’t get me wrong, Facebook is great and anyone that thought MySpace had a chance should be hiding in a corner. But, Google still provides a plethora of services where Facebook has no relevance.
The two companies are too far apart to say one is cooler than the other.
First it was Friendster, then it was MySapce and now its Facebook. Am I the only one that thinks social networking sites are over-hyped?
The only networking site I have seen with stable growth is Linked In – because it is specific to career management as a vertical.
Facebook was cool two years ago, when people in college first caught on to it and it was still underground. I know, because I was at the University of Wisconsin when Facebook first exploded. But they opened it up to high schools, then businesses, and now anyone can have a profile.
Facebook is NOT cool among trendsetters, the young, hip people who actually determine what cool is. Facebook is now cool among middle aged VCs who sense a chance to get rich. Facebook is simply a way for my friends and I to stay in touch; 75% of us do not give a shit about the new apps.

I think it is amazing that anyone needs to have 2500 friends in any given situation, honestly how can you have that many ‘friends’?
As Mike Kowieski correctly says in his comment above neither social networks are cool anymore, as soon as they go mainstream the teenagers and hipsters that make them cool are no longer interested.
Now its all about huge corporates gathering information to be able advertise and sell other stuff to the masses.
Interestingly enough though with over 1.6 million registered users, if Myspace was a country it would be the 13th biggest in the world.
