The latest search market share numbers are in from Hitwise: in the four weeks ended March 31st, Google (GOOG) racked up fully 64.13% of all US searches. That’s up more than 10% since March 2006, and, if trends hold, Google’s share will pass the two thirds mark by August. In the same period, Yahoo (YHOO), Microsoft (MSFT), and Ask (IACI) all lost share. As the old Wall Street hands like to say: “Liquidity begets liquidity.”

  1. Awesome news! After all the ludicrous blog postings about how Yahoo’s new algorithm is giving Google a run for it’s money, I’m so happy to see a post that proves otherwise. I got so annoyed that I unsubscribed to those very blogs – that’ll teach ’em to lie to me. I honestly just don’t see how the redundancy on Yahoo SERPS are better and how it will gain market share, in fact I wish they would go back to what it was pre-new algo. It was bad then, but so much better than what it is now.

Good job Google! Keep up the great work.

  2. I have to admit that I’m a bit surprised at this news. As the previous commenter points out, Yahoo certainly sounded as if it was getting some traction with its release of Panama.

Nevertheless, there still could be some time delay in feeling its impact but to lose share truly seems surprising.
