Just finished the book. Thought it was great and thanks for the updated chapter. I’m looking forward to the next update.

Adding a chapter to the paperback edition does set up some conflicting possibilities. Upon release of your next hard cover I may buy it immediately but not actually read it for several months, meaning that I surely should have just waited for the paperback...

I know these decisions are made by the publisher and not the author, but those are my thoughts anyway. As it happens I read The Search very soon after it was delivered, but there is this huge stack of unread books here...

Well at least the new chapter was added to the paperback, Thos. Friedman added a chapter to a second edition before the release of the paperback (and before I finished reading the first).

Of course Baidu has the first mover advantage in China. So to compete with Baidu will be an uphill task for Google. it all depends on how Google can come up with new strategies to woo people away from Baidu to Google.

Google is also actively recruiting people in Japan now. Yahoo dominates the Japanese search engine scene. Google also has to face compettion from Japanese local search engines like goo by NTT, Excite Japan and Infoseek Japan.

Google indeed has lost market share. Probably not only because of their Chinese version with the weird name, that most Google users haven't even heard of according to the latest CNNIC reports.

Also because Baidu has been actively marketing itself positively by publishing for example a slightly nationalistic book written by one of their VP's, called "Believe in China".

As a side note: It seems that the domain battellemedia.com is blocked here in Shanghai. I had to use a proxy.
