Sergey, you can have any size index you want!

The Journal covers disputes (paid reg) around Air Brin & Page.

Now the Delaware holding company that technically owns the 767, Blue City Holdings LLC, is embroiled in multiple lawsuits with an aviation designer hired to plan and oversee the massive plane’s interior renovation.

…Messrs. Brin and Page “had some strange requests,” including hammocks hung from the ceiling of the plane. At one point he witnessed a dispute between them over whether Mr. Brin should have a “California king” size bed, he says. Mr. Jennings says Mr. Schmidt stepped in to resolve that by saying, “Sergey, you can have whatever bed you want in your room; Larry, you can have whatever kind of bed you want in your bedroom. Let’s move on.” Mr. Jennings says Mr. Schmidt at another point told him, “It’s a party airplane.”

Major insights into how the triumvirate manages Google, to be sure. “Sergey, you can have any size index you want!”

The article has pictures of the interiors as well. The interiors look pretty lux, but overall, this is not a pretty picture.

Update: Scott asked, I looked, and the article is tossed over the freewall at the Journal here. I’ve added a pic given that they have released this one into the wild. Man, will the Journal just get over the paid stuff and blow it out already?

I think he should go with a giant round bed with mirrors on the ceiling and tv screens all around the walls

We really do NOT know if that quote was accurate regarding their alledged dispute(s). We should give them the benefit of the doubt.

But one thing is obvious, since the lawsuit is NOT with Brin or Page – but between Blue City and Jennings, it appears to be unprofessional for Jennings have made the comment he is “quoted” as making above – (if he DID say that).

When someone is paying you potentially thousands of dollars – if not millions – to provide a valuable service for them, do you show your appreciation by pubically calling their tastes “STRANGE” - and to add insult to injury – blabber to the media about their private arguments?

They have absolutely every right to choose their bed sizes and whatever other esoteric luxuries they feel would make their lives happier.

It is not as if they were asking for any immoral or illegal porn or S&M equiptment

I don’t buy this story. If this was Brin & Page’s private purchase, why would Schmidt ever be there? Makes no sense.

Only two bedrooms? Who’s Eric shacking up with then?

    @Teddie: There’s a reason it’s called “Air Brin & Page”. :)

John, for those of us who don’t pay for the Journal, do you know of any other links for the story?

Yup Scott, found it in the free RSS feed. Updated the post. Thanks for asking!

It is somewhat curious particularly after saying to Times Magazine that money has not changed them much.

TIME: HOW DOES IT FEEL TO SUDDENLY BE SO WEALTHY?

BRIN: It takes a lot of getting used to. You always hear the phrase, money doesn’t buy you happiness. But I always in the back of my mind figured a lot of money will buy you a little bit of happiness. But it’s not really true. I got a new car because the old one’s lease expired. Nothing terribly fancy–you could drive the same car.

He may have a car like anyone elses but a plane better than most heads of state. Would have seemed like a smaller plane that used less oil would have been a smarter decision, but then again, it is their money.
