After the hard time I gave you when you posted the Blinx press release in its entirety, I'll be very interested in what your experience is. I hope they did a better job on the Mac.

It's also an entry into enterprise search, from a bottom-up direction. The top down approach has been, well, let's just say it's still in beta.

What's with this hype around the desktop search? My guesses next to searching the desktop:
- desktop search is an entry to personalised search (since the data at the desktop is your profile, and resumes of this profile could be sent to any web-search service which uses it for its ranking)
- desktop search is an entry to broadband-content search (since the indexing of broadband content has to be done at the edges of the network, where the intelligence should reside ideally; P2P search and we have E2E again)

At last, a MAC version of blinkx. I had a couple of problems to start with, but seems to be running ok now. I've used the PC version for the last 3 months, but I mostly use a MAC, so I'm a happy boy. It's still pre-beta, so I'd expect a few glitches but I'm sure these guys will iron them out soon enough. Hats off to them!

I've used X1 for years, and believe it's the best desktop search. Though the other Bigs got out of the gate first, X1 (now YDS) is fantastic, miles better than Google's. The only other desktop search I've seen that was close is Copernic.

(I wrote an testimonial to X1 in March of 2004 in the comments of Joho the Blog: http://www.hyperorg.com/blogger/mtarchive/002473.html)

thanks

Did Blinkx work for you? It won't allow me to install claiming I don't have permission rights anywhere on my system. Nice.
