I watch commercials only when I want to, or when I forget I can skip them...sometimes, I do want to watch them. But...not that often.

Re:
>In our two-TiVo household, we're cherry picking niche television programming more and more

Which begs the question -- do people in two-Tivo households actually watch any commercials? Certainly a large percentage are skipped.

John, I like your cable TV-as-magazine-rack meme, and think it strikes some important notes. In our two-TiVo household, we're cherry picking niche television programming more and more, and I also find myself reading magazines in a different way: much less cover to cover and more one or two articles and throw the rest away without feeling guilty. Both activities seem to be shaped by my Internet reading habits, where I gravitate to weblogs and personal publishing sites with a distinctive voice to complement my visits to large, established sites. In a world of ubiquitous media and time-challenged users, relevance, community and voice are traits that I increasingly look toward.
