a free Windows-only software that lets you stream photos, videos and music from the computer on to your TV.

Google ain't a media company. It just isn't in their DNA.
bit of difference between a 'media center' and a 'media server'. this is really a upnp media server... afaik they don't have an offering for the client end of wire.
