What to do? It is Google's plan to be the advertising platform on all media, by owning the majority of the distribution channels and partnering with those who own the rest of the pie. The deal is done. Perhaps now people are beginning to understand the Big Brother potential of Google. Do no evil.
Google has recently purchased many of the popular "social" sites, and may be planning on buying more.
