Google News V. Yahoo News
JD Lasica takes a long look here. He asks:
Google News: Unintentionally skewing to the right?
He then goes on to analyze Google News results, which are driven mainly by algorithms, and Yahoo News, driven more by editorial judgment. Interesting. I don't have a dog in this fight, so please folks, let's avoid the Goon Shadow smackdown.

There is a really interesting point here....Google released in my view a really important paper "query free news search." I would recommend everybody read it.

What is interesting here, is that Google don’t initially go out and grab what’s on the web.....they actually scan a closed caption of streaming media from the broadcast world, then go to their index.
What’s interesting for me here, is that it actually draws back in the human judgement, as a human has decided what's going on the news.
I don’t know if Google have actually implemented this system yet, but imagine the possibilities – google is searching & collating the information on the web regarding the TV program’s you watching or conversations you’re having.
Remember that piece on the “perfect search”…agents roaming the web on your behalf, etc, etc.
I actually think you’ve touched on a very important technological point here John……and lets hope and pending discussion also view’s it that way!!
